Updated clinical practice guideline published March 1, 2018 in the journal Otolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery recommend early visualization of larynx and vocal folds in patients when hoarseness (dysphonia) fails to resolve or improve within 4 weeks or irrespective of duration if a serious underlying cause is suspected. It also says that clinicians should not routinely prescribe antibiotics to treat dysphonia.
